The University has also set a record with its out-of-state recruitment, as the incoming freshman class is 60 percent out-of-state, military overseas and international students, according to a UA spokesperson.
This is the third consecutive year UA’s freshman class has been majority out-of-state, with 55 percent majority in 2012 and 51 percent majority in 2011.
Alabama residents still tip total enrollment in their favor, with 53 percent of the total student body.
The record-breaking student body enrollment is a 3.7 percent increase over last fall’s numbers.
While enrollment growth has been a UA trend for many year’s, this increase is less than the 2012 increase of 5.8 percent.
The total student body is comprised of 29,443 undergraduate students and 5,409 graduate and professional students.
This year’s student body includes 6,478 freshmen, who count 126 National Merit Scholars and 1,741 students who scored in the top 5 percent of the ACT among their ranks.
The average ACT score of the class is 25.8, another record-breaking high for the university.
